TRANSPORTATION NOISE
 
Transportation noise affects a significant proportion of the population, especially in urban and suburban areas. Ugandan Legislation has been used to gradually reduce the noise emissions from vehicles in order to provide an overall improvement. However, this has been offset by the steady increase in traffic flows. The majority of road systems are not designed to take account of noise but improvement schemes offers an opportunity to reduce the impact of noise by designing in specific noise reduction measures.
 
Gissat has carried out numerous environmental impact assessments for road schemes. These have included assessments for transportation noise, air quality, greenhouse gases, ecology, heritage, biodiversity and water quality including flood risk. Gissat is also very experienced in EIA for major developments that affect traffic flows.
 
Gissat’s noise monitoring and assessment capabilities include a comprehensive noise mapping service. We utilize the noise propagation software package to model noise levels from a variety of sources including roads, railways, construction sites and industries.
